2009 Sea Ray 260 Sundeck It takes nerve to replace a best-selling boat, especially in a very competitive market segment full of "me too" models. But that's how Sea Ray stays ahead of the rest. By continuing to improve and evolve, the brand is able to give customers the most progressive products in the marine industry. As part of its ongoing mission to launch its deck boats to a new level, Sea Ray has introduced the 260 Sundeck, a waterborne "sport utility vehicle" that replaces the venerable 240 Sundeck. "The 240 was a star player for us for ten years," says Joe Cacopardo, director of marketing at Sea Ray. "The 260 takes all the hot features of the 240, cranks up the dial, and makes something even hotter." Unlike some updated models that feature the same old hull and deck, the 260 was redesigned from the keel up. It sports sleek, curvaceous lines, in keeping with the latest Sundecks, and flaunts accents such as stainless-steel engine vent covers and custom Sea Ray cleats that are sized right and thru-bolted to ensure a dependable mooring point. With swim platforms and ladders fore and aft, the 260 Sundeck is easy to board from the water, the beach or the dock. The stern swim platform boasts slip-resistant rubber inserts that provide secure footing and make it more comfortable to kneel and adjust water-sports gear. Overlooking the stern platform is an aft-facing transom seat that allows parents an unbeatable view of kids swimming behind the boat. Under this seat is a super-convenient ski/wakeboard locker. There are two additional storage lockers, each suitable for holding big water-sports items, built into the cockpit sole. Both have fiberglass hatches with stainless-steel latches, sturdy hinges, gas-assist lifts and protective mats inside. One of them is in the bow, where owners will also find a built-in ice chest and deep, padded lounges served by drink holders, grab handles and flip-up armrests. Another highlight of the 260 is the updated helm featuring custom Sea Ray gauges with standard SmartCraft® diagnostics and chrome bezels, lighted chrome toggle switches, power-assisted steering, tilt wheel, aluminum accents and distinctive "bullet-style" dash. "Performance is awesome, too," said Cacopardo. "Minimal bow rise, quick planing and a smooth ride." Standard power is a MerCruiser® 5.0L MPI Bravo® III MCM (260 hp - 194 kW), with options ranging up to 320 hp. Of course, family-friendliness is critical in a deck boat, and the 260 is up to the task and then some. There's a fiberglass head compartment with a lockable door, sink, vanity, mirror, light and portable head. Abaft the helm bucket seat (did we mention it slides, swivels and has a flip-up thigh rise?) is a wet bar with stainless-steel sink, drink holders, grab rail and storage for a carry-on cooler. A Sony® stereo with CD player, MP3 port, iPod® connector, digital remote and four weatherproof speakers will get the boat rocking. A removable cockpit table makes snack time a snap, and it stores in its own designated spot when you want extra stretching space. Other standard features are less obvious but no less important: hinged bow storage, leather-textured side panel cubbies, marine-grade vinyl with mildew and UV protection, finished fiberglass floor, low-profile windshield with wiper, gel-coated engine compartment. Each choice is designed to make boat operation and upkeep as stress-free as possible, so you can spend more time having fun. Speaking of which, the 260 is covered by a limited lifetime hull and deck warranty and allows plenty of personalization to suit owners' needs: a chartplotter, air compressor for water toys, water-sports tower, two-tone colors and much more. Every owner also receives free membership in the Sea Ray Owners Club, where they will enjoy special benefits including the ability to earn points toward the purchase of their next Sea Ray. It's all part of the star treatment owners get with the new 260 Sundeck.
