What is a hovercraft boat used for?
A specialized hovercraft boat is a modern concept that makes it possible to create a powerful and versatile vessel. Air is forced under the boat’s hull, which allows it to be dynamically maintained above any surface, eliminating friction.
Such units transport cargo, carry passengers, and participate in rescue operations. Modern hovercraft boats are actively used in research expeditions and sightseeing tours. Recently, it has become popular to purchase a hovercraft boat for active fishing and hunting.
Advantages of hovercraft boats:
- they can move across water and ice surfaces, rapids, shallow waters, coastal areas, and even land;
- hovercraft boats are fast and maneuverable, capable of reaching speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour;
- comfortable (equipped with soundproof and thermally insulated cabins);
- relatively economical fuel consumption;
- large buoyancy blocks make the vessels unsinkable.
High speed and the possibility of additional equipment allow the hovercraft boat to be used for active recreation and specialized trips (medical rescue, search and rescue, reconnaissance, etc.).

However, there are some “hidden pitfalls” in this seemingly perfect design. For example, due to condensation in the power unit, the hovercraft boat may simply fail to start. And a powerful engine may become unusable in temperatures below 5-7°. Some models sink when the engine is turned off, while others fail to lift onto the air cushion (all these nuances are related to the boat’s weight capacity).
When purchasing a hovercraft boat, keep in mind that the price depends on the size and weight capacity of the vessel, the availability of specialized equipment, and the quality and power of the installed engines. The boat is transported using automotive trailers with appropriate weight capacity.
