How Enormous Is This Sailing Yacht?
In 2015, sea trials of the world’s largest eight-deck sailing yacht began in the German city of Kiel. It was built to order for Andrey Melnichenko, a well-known Russian oligarch. The vessel is a massive ship (143 meters long and 25 meters wide). At least fifty staff members are required to maintain it.
The world’s largest sailing yacht cost its owner approximately $400,000,000. The vessel was designed by French industrial designer Philippe Starck, who had previously collaborated with this oligarch and designed his “Motor Yacht A.” The yacht was built at one of Germany’s largest shipyards owned by the company “Nobiskrug.”
There are rumors that “Sailing Super Yacht A” is merely a working title, and that Melnichenko and his family will rename it “White Pearl.”

What “Sailing Super Yacht A” Is Like
The vessel is equipped with four engines: two electric and two diesel. The yacht features transparent hull walls in the keel section, which allow you to observe marine life within the vessel. The thickness of the acrylic glass is 30 centimeters.
Three hundred-meter carbon fiber masts, which can be controlled with automation, are made of carbon. The sails themselves can be deployed instantly – precise electronics respond to any changes in weather conditions.
The vessel’s draft is eight meters; however, it can travel light at a draft of 7.5 meters. On board there are compartments for several tenders and a miniature submarine. The world’s largest sailing yacht can achieve a cruising speed of 29 km per hour, with a maximum speed of 39 km per hour. Its water displacement is 12,700 liters. These are quite impressive figures compared to other sailing yachts.
